HBO

HBO is a USA television channel.

Launched in 1972, HBO (Home Box Office) is a subscription-based cable television network presenting movies, entertainment shows, documentaries and sports programs. HBO was started in New York City by Charles Dolan as a pay TV service called the "Green Channel." It was acquired by Time Life in 1973 and grew along with the cable television industry. Among other innovations, HBO was the first TV network to use satellite distribution, digital transmission and to offer a high-definition version of its programming. The company offers the video-on-demand services HBO On Demand and Cinemax On Demand. HBO has become known for its original programming, including popular TV series like "The Sopranos," "Sex and the City," and "Curb Your Enthusiasm."
