Nickelodeon, often referred to as simply "Nick," is an American cable television channel with programming for kids. It was founded in 1977 as Pinwheel. The Pinwheel name was used until April 1, 1981, when the service was relaunched as Nickelodeon: the First Network for Kids. The channel is split into several programming blocks, including Nick at Nite and Nick's Play Date. Nickelodeon began developing its own animated series in 1991, including The Ren and Stimpy Show and Rugrats.
