The network is named after the 20th Century Fox movie studio, one of the major American film studios which was renamed 20th Century Studios after it was acquired by the Walt Disney Company in 2019. The Fox network was launched on October 9, 1986 by Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation, which bought 20th Century Fox in 1985. Today the Fox network is owned by Fox Corporation.
