Freeform is a cable TV channel that was known as ABC Family Channel until January 12, 2016. With the name change, Disney switched the target audience of the channel from families to teens and young adults. The company says the channel "appeals to the almost-adult in almost everyone."
In October 2001, Disney paid $5.3 billion to buy Fox Family Channel from News Corporation. The following month Disney renamed it ABC Family Channel.
