Public Books

Public Books is a USA website covering Books and Literature.

Public Books is a digital magazine covering a wide range of topics with features authored by academics and scholars. It encourages subject experts to speak to a broad audience beyond the academy with writing that is "erudite without being esoteric." The similarities with The New York Review of Books are notable.

Public Books was founded in 2012 by Sharon Marcus, a literature professor, and Caitlin Zaloom, an anthropologist. Their goal was to bridge the boundaries between disciplines and to break the barriers between the academy and the public. The service is funded by Columbia University, New York University and Northwestern University.
