-- Only 3.8 % pay for online news, while 68% of users report accessing it.

That's according to a new trends study released in December 2011 by Oliver & Ohlbaum, a British research form, which shows that multi-sourcing of news content is common to all news channels.

The average consumer uses 2.7 different forms of media to gather news. These include newspapers, online, mobile, television and radio.

54% of users read newspapers, with the average reader consulting 2 publications. 68% use online sources, with the average online news consumer hitting 5.2 sites.

Mobile users, numbering 33%, visit 1.8 sites. However, 9% of those pay for mobile news, with 19% paying for news accessed over a tablet device.

75% access television coverage, with the average consumer tuning in to 2.2 stations. And 40% still find the radio useful, listening to 1.5 stations in the quest to gather the news.

The study included 1707 newspapers, online and mobile sites; 449 radio stations and 431 TV stations in the UK.
