WNCT TV 9 began broadcasting on December 22, 1953. It was owned by Greenville Daily Reflector, a newspaper headquartered in Greenville, North Carolina. Roy H. Park bought the Daily Reflector and WNCT-AM-FM-TV in 1961, and the station remained the flagship of Park Communications until the company merged with Media General in 1997.
