WAAY TV 31 broadcasts from Huntsville across Madison County and northern Alabama. In February 2020, Allen Media Broadcasting bought WAAY and 10 other stations from Heartland Media, although the stations continue to be managed by Heartland. Allen Media Broadcasting is a unit of Allen Media Group, which is part of Entertainment Studios, Inc., a business founded and controlled by Byron Allen.
The station was launched in 1959 using the call letters WAFG, which were changed to WAAY in 1963.
