Home Box Office (HBO)

Home Box office operates the pay television channels HBO and Cinemax along with many HBO brand extensions and international versions. The company is part of Warner Bros. Discovery, a company created from the merger of Discovery Inc. and WarnerMedia, LLC on April 8, 2022.

Before the Discovery/WarnerMedia merger, HBO was a division of WarnerMedia, a business created in June 2018 when AT&T Corporation acquired Time Warner Inc.

Home Box office was launched in 1972 as a premium cable television service primarily offering feature films and television movies. Today the business includes a range of channels including HBO Comedy, HBO Latino, HBO Signature, and HBO Family. In 2015 HBO launched the streaming service HBO Now.

Over the years HBO has evolved to become a leading producer of its own programming, including original television series, documentaries, stand-up comedy, music specials and sports events. Its most successful original series include The Wire, Entourage, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Sex and the City, The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones.

HBO operates Cinemax, a sister channel launched in 1980, and has other services and partnerships worldwide.

This comment is about the documentary The Weight of The World. Speaking for many who have cable tv and the many of us who for what ever reason do not subscribe to HBO but would like to watch the documentary Weight of The World. I feel that if you are going to show this kind of documentary then the masses should be able to watch,it should be shown on basic cable also for those who do not have HBO since this is a world problem for many people who are trying to beat this problem of Obesity. Just my thought. I really would like to see documentary but can not afford to add HBO at this time.

I am a 69 year-old woman who has spent more than 40 years battling the bulge. Every diet I tried failed because they were boring, hard to follow, and the food did not taste good. Contrary to what Time's article about the show, my experience has proved to me that when diets are boring and hard to follow I abandoned them. I believe others do too.

With the odds stacked against me, I LOST 50 POUNDS in one year. I have a sluggish thyroid, do not have a spleen, take medication that causes weight gain, had a slipped disk, and have bad knees making any form of exercise extremely difficult. On the only diet that has ever worked for me, I went FROM A SIZE 22 TO A SIZE 12 by eating only restaurant meals.

I do not count calories, carbs, trans fats or other things. I do not deny myself anything. As an author and artist, I spend most of my day in front of a computer. I do not do the strenuous exercises required by most diets, only walk a dog and ride a stationary bicycle each day.

There is no other diet book or restaurant guide that compares to From Fat to Fabulous: A Diet Guide for Restaurant Lovers.

“Most diet books are written by doctors, psychiatrists, celebrities, and nutritionists. They are dull and clinical. I tried most of their diets and failed on every one because they make dining a chore instead of a pleasant experience.

Unlike other diet and restaurant books, From Fat to Fabulous lists the actual restaurant menu items I ate to go from a size 22 to a size 12.

“Elaine is our diet diva! She is inspirational.” said Cathy Cummings, Nurse, St. Louis Orthopedic Institute.

“What great work,” said Connie Diekman, director of university nutrition at Washington University. “She assessed her lifestyle, recognized the need for change and took action.”

“Amy Moore, dietetics and nutrition instructor at St. Louis University, said “Abramson seems to have mastered making good choices.”

I have not subscribed to your channel for year because you air Maher’s show. After recent comments from him and none from you, I have decided that I will NEVER subscribe to your channel. I will also go from being passively against your channel to publicly and aggressively vocalizing my distain for it.

I am cancelling HBO as we speak as I am fed up with your constantly repeating the same old movies day in and day out. At least show a good old movie. Why don't you ever show "The Hurt Locker" or "Inglourious Basterds"? HBO use to give their subscribers a newer movie on Saturday nite, but now even that went bye bye. Also, commenting on the series, "Mildred Pierce"; "BORING"!!! Some movies should never be "redone" and this is one of them! I noticed Kate Winslet appears naked in most of her movies but since this series takes place in the thirties, her naked/sex scenes with "Monty" are out of place and border on porno. The "new" cast cannot compare with the original cast. Veda looks like a little girl with no comparison to the "selfish and spoiled" performance of Ann Blyth. Jack Carson's part cannot be duplicated. Zachary Scott was the perfect cheater, louse and, con man combined. Eve Arden was perfect spewing out her sarcastic remarks and making them work. As for Kate, she is either trying too hard or is just bored, as we are. TCM showed the oiginal "Mildred Pierce" a week ago and it distinctly showcased what a complete failure your series is. The direction didn't help either!! Goodbye HBO!!!!

Content similar to Bill Maher's reported malicious attacks on Sarah Palin is the main reason for me to drop HBO several years ago and now, after seeing HBO allows him to continue I have no desire to even reconsider my decision. While I dislike boycotts per se, I do think Direct TV should re-evaluate its position on carrying HBO programs. AFLAC quickly acted on Gottfried's comments recently.

Short of an outright apology to Sarah Palin, I do believe bill maher should be taken to task for using the sexist slur in reference to Ms. Palin. He has no place in modern America using such language and should be fired immediately for his insulting behavior. I will no longer watch this "comedian" nor will I support anything HBO tries to say to ameliorate his gutter language.

I think that in my personal opinion, HBO has done wonderful things with mini series; I think that you should do a series based off of the Wheel of Time series by the late Robert Jordan. It is an incredible series using a more asian based heritage. The world he created is vast and amazing. In my opinion it is a series that could rival the Lord of the Rings and win. Please take into consideration with the proposition of this idea.
